!!!Six Months!!!

Nineeeeeeers!

August 25th marked our six month wedding anniversary. We are now an old married couple 🙂 It’s hard for us to believe that it has only been six months. Sure we spend a lot of time together, but I think it has more to do with the fact that we have come so far in those six months – physically and emotionally. A lot of people ask what it is we do all day living on a sailboat. Some days are more eventful than others but Sunday the 25th was a memorable one so I’ll use it as an example.

We woke up around 7am and boiled some water for the coffee press while we reviewed our latest weather updates and chatted about plans for the day. The weather was incredibly settled and sunny, so we decided to take advantage of the calm seas and do a bit of snorkeling. While Logan prepped the dinghy for the trip, I stripped the sheets and threw them in our Home Depot bucket (washing machine) with some water and ammonia so they could soak while we went out. Swimsuits and sunglasses on, we took off in search of new coral heads to explore.

We hadn’t been in the water for five minutes before I hear Logan calling me over to check out the LOBSTER he spotted. I swam around to the far side of the rock to keep an eye out in case he shot backwards, Logan lined up his shot and BOOM! Lobster success! We spent the next couple hours swimming around various coral heads – I am getting to the point where I can identify lots of different species of fish so that makes snorkeling even more interesting. On our way back to the boat for some lunch we gave our catch to our buddies on Wings. We had lots of food aboard and we owed them a thank you gift for handling a customs debacle while we were in the states. Before we made it to Wings, we got intercepted by Steve who had also had a successful fishing trip that morning and he gave us another lobster to pass along! What a cool neighborhood we live in 🙂

We got back to Stella and I went straight to wringing out the sheets and hanging them to dry on the lifelines while Logan filleted a grouper we picked up to make some ceviche for lunch. This was our first attempt at ceviche and it was seriously delicious. We spent the rest of the afternoon hanging out and getting ready for our dinner reservations at Latitudes – a restaurant we had been wanting to check out across the harbor at the Exuma Beach Resort.

Dinner was a real treat; it had been a long time since we had eaten at a restaurant just the two of us. We were actually the only table in the whole restaurant (gotta love low season!) As soon as we finished eating, we raced back to the dinghy to make it back across the harbor with the last spark of sunlight. (We really aren’t fans of dark dinghy rides!) When we made it back, Logan changed into his 49ers jersey, we grabbed some Kalik beers and zoomed over to Wings to watch the Niners/Vikings game on their big TV which ended with a niners victory (Sorry Craig!). It was a totally successful anniversary.

The past couple weeks Logan and I have had a lot to celebrate. In addition to making it to the half year mark of marriage, July 31st marked our one year anniversary of sailing. That was the first day that either of us had ever stepped foot on any type of sailing vessel. Life for us has been exciting, challenging, awesome (in the true sense of the word), stressful, confidence building, perspective changing, and so full of love. Here’s to another six months…who knows where we’ll be or how we will get there!
