Sweet Tea or Unsweet Tea?

Avenue of Oaks

Unsweet tea with extra lemons please! Charleston has been good to us. The people are friendly, the food is delicious, the weather is super comfortable, and there is something going on all the time for us to check out – art walks, restaurant week, Greek festivals, marina happy hours. The Charleston City Marina/MEGADOCK is walking distance to downtown AND we picked up a couple of bikes to use while we are here in town, so we are totally mobile.

Logan’s parents came to visit after we had been here a week, so we packed in as much touristy stuff as possible. We also took them (and the little pup Coco) out for a sail in Charleston Harbor. It was great to see them and introduce them to our new way of life.

The biggest news is that we have decided how/when we are headed back down to the Caribbean. We registered for the Salty Dawg Rally departing out of Hampton, VA on November 4th (weather permitting) and arriving in Tortola in the British Virgin Islands 7-10 days later. The rally has about 100 other sailboats registered, so we will have the support of lots of salty sailors. Another bonus is that Wings decided to join the rally too! And we heard about it from Baxter and Molly who are registered along with their friend Steve who we went sailing with down in Sarasota. We are seriously pumped.

The plan is to leave Charleston mid-October and head up the Inter Coastal Waterway (ICW) to Hampton. We will anchor each night so the trip should take 1 1/2 – 2 weeks to go the ~400 miles northeast. The next week is booked up with boat chores, provisioning lists, and even a handful of social events. As much as we love this city, it’s time to cast off the dock lines and continue the adventure.

  1. Great plan. Be prepared, though. The intercostal can be boring! Sure you don’t want to head out to sea. So glad you finally got your parents out in the boat. I hope they enjoyed it. I know that made you happy.
