Gillian Logan

Our adventure began July 7, 2012 at a bar in Hayes Valley, San Francisco, CA called Place Pigale. Gillian and I had just said goodnight to The Drapers who were in town visiting. Gillian casually mentioned the idea of cruising around the world. I hadn’t been completely satisfied with my work, and I knew it was time for something else. When she first said it I was imagining all the fuel we would be burning in a forty foot motor yacht. It wasn’t going to be possible. The idea stuck with me a bit longer though, living on a boat has been a life long dream, and when we got back to the house it hit me. We could sail. I spent all night researching the cruising lifestyle, and couldn’t find a reason why we couldn’t do this. We haven’t gone a day without planning since.

There’s a bit more to the story than that. The adventure really began about 15 years before that when Gillian and I met at Strack Intermediate in Spring, TX. We have been great friends since the day we met. During high school our friendship had elevated more than that. The courtship was interrupted when Gillian’s family packed up and moved to Rio for 18 months. We remained friends, but went our separate ways for the most part after that. Over the next 10 years we stayed in contact and saw each other during holidays. After high school we both moved away. Gillian went to Tulsa, OK and I went to Waco, TX. Following college Gillian moved back to Houston and began working for KBR. I followed a job opportunity out to Cupertino, CA at Apple. While we were working Gillian and I started to correspond more frequently. Eventually she started coming out to visit in California. After one visit in June of 2011, it was clear that we needed to be together. She decided she would pick up her roots and things and move out to California. Six months later we were living together at 25th and Bryant in The Mission District of San Francisco. Six months after that we began planning our getaway. Six months after that I asked her to marry me on a J/24 sailboat in San Francisco Bay. 43 days later we were married and now two months after getting engaged we are living on a boat in Florida just about ready to set sail on our year long honey moon in our beautiful blue Tartan 37 Stella Blue.

  1. It’s a beautiful beginning for your life together. …May the wind be always at your back, the sun shine warm upon your face, and the rains fall soft upon your sails. Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

  2. Jeanette and I enjoyed our visit to the Florida Keys, especially seeing you and the awesome yacht! Good luck on your ventures to the Bahamas and beyond….
